Richard Jackson asked: I’m 29 years old and still don’t really have a career path to follow. I did graduate from college with a B.A. in communications, and haven’t really found my niche. Well, recently I have decided to go back to school and take a 7 unit computer networking course that is Sponsored by Cisco. The course prepares me to get my CCNA, and if all goes well I will be certified in about 9 months.
My question is… Is this a wise choice as far as careers go? So far I really like what I’ve learned… but I’m wondering what my opportunities will be once I get my first certification (CCNA). Will it be hard to find a job? Will the money be good? Is the CCNA alone enough to land me a pretty decent job? Also, I was hoping that my degree would somehow help me out in all of this even though it is unrelated to the computer networking field…any thoughts on this?
I’m almost 30 and starting to panick. This lack of “career” has been giving me a great amount of anxiety lately. I always felt so young… like I had all the time in the world to figure things out. I’m now realizing that I time is running out!
Anything else that you think would be helpful to me on this topic, feel free to include in you answers.
Thank you in advance.

Hi. I am 19 and am thinking of attending Lincoln Tech for Computer Networking. For those who are in this career, will the training be very very tough (I know the Hardware will be, but mainly my focus is software). I was in small classes during High School and Lincoln Tech says I don’t need to know anything they will do the training and have great placements. So my 2 questions are 1. How tough is it to learn? 2. When I am working after School, what exactly will my main job be? Thank you so much for all of your help.

Mochi asked: Are there any drawbacks in the Computer Networking career field?
I love computers and the idea in working in the Computer Networking field.
I am currently getting:
CompTIA A+ Cert
CompTIA S+ Cert
CompTIA N+ Cert
–
CCNA Cert
-by now I will be on an internship with a local ISP in telecommunications.
Eventually CCNP Cert
… etc.
Are their any drawbacks in the Networking field I should be concerned about?
I am looking for ANY suggestions and opinions about this.
Please STAR my question to allow it to float for a while!
I really need some answers before choosing a career for my entire life!

Goose asked: Hello,
I been considering changing my career focus and perhaps go into Computers (IT). Tonight I was at the community college nearby and picked up some brochures but it does not go into detail. I only want to maybe get certified or maybe just get an AA degree in something in Computers. I was thinking about Networking. Keep in mind I am horrible at Math, but for these courses, there are no Math classes involved. So my question is, how difficult is Computer Networking as a Career and how good is the money? What kind of hours would I be working? Can I get a good job in this without a Bachelor’s Degree?

I’ve been thinking really hard to go to school this fall for Computer Network System Administrator. I was planning on completing an Associates degree for it. I just want to make sure by the time I complete the 2yr degree there will be a job available for Computer Network System Administrator. I am planning on taking the class at a community college. Thanks ahead of time!
